Do Small States Fare Better: In or Out of the EU?

The EU is said to be dominated by its big hitters, notably France and Germany, but smaller member states such as Ireland can wield significant influence. Others such as Iceland prefer to stay outside the EU for now.

What do their experiences tell us – and what are the lessons for Scotland?

Speakers:

  • Michael Mann, EU special envoy for Arctic Matters and ex-ambassador to Iceland.
  • Michael Keating, Professor of Politics at Aberdeen University and co-author of Small nations in a big world.
  • Dr Kirsty Hughes, founding director of the Scottish Centre on European Relations/author of Smaller states strategy & influencing in EU-27.

Chaired by Prof Fiona Wishlade of Strathclyde University and EMiS Committee.
