A statement from David Clarke on behalf of the members of the European Movement in Scotland.
The European Movement in Scotland (EMiS) is shocked to learn of the sudden death of Jim Wallace, Lord Wallace of Tankerness. He was a towering figure in Scottish public life and a man of the highest integrity and decency. He made numerous contributions to building a better Scotland.
Jim was a great friend to EMiS. We shall miss him and mourn him. Our sympathies go to his wife and family, his many friends across Scotland and across the political world.
Lord Wallace was a consummate European, He championed European values as a Scottish minister and Deputy First Minister, as an MSP and as an MP. He was a greatly valued Patron of the European Movement in Scotland and quick to respond to calls for assistance. As recently as late last year, he was instrumental in helping to make our annual dinner the success it was.
Many EMiS members knew Jim Wallace personally. He was universally liked and admired. We are saddened by his passing.

The European Movement in Scotland is committed to promoting the essential European value of free speech. Consequently, we regularly publish articles by leading academics, journalists and others discussing issues germane to Scotland’s place in Europe. Such articles do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Movement in Scotland.
