“A tour de force” Dr Amanda Sloat’s webinar conversation with John Edward

If you were unable to join our 8th April webinar, ‘The Transatlantic Relationship Reimagined,’ with Dr. Amanda Sloat and EMIS’s (European Movement in Scotlan) John Edward*, or want to watch it again, it is now on our YouTube channel and our video gallery.

Dr Sloat provided analysis and comment on the relationships between the USA and its European allies. The picture she paints is of a fractured global order that presents enormous political, security and economic challenges to the EU and the UK. A central contention is that the current fragility of the Transatlantic Alliance is of a much greater order than any past rifts.

John Edward’s conversation with Dr Sloat sees her deliver a tour de force of historic knowledge and deep foreign and security policy knowledge, given added authority by her insights into the tides and eddies of American and European political behavior honed by her years at the heart of the White House policy machine.

If you are interested in hearing more of Dr. Sloat’s expertise on the transatlantic relationship, you can find her recent Washington Post piece on the European response to coercion in security and trade and daily life at: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/04/08/trump-europe-transatlantic-alliance-trust/.

It is part of the work of the European Movement in Scotland to provide members and the wider public with opportunities to hear from leading figures in politics, business, media and academe on issues of the highest importance to the security and prosperity of the peoples of Scotland, the UK and the European mainland.
