The Ukraine war and the future of Europe (DCU Brexit Institute)

On Thursday 31 March 2022, the DCU Brexit Institute will hold an event on “The Ukraine War and the Future of the EU”. The event will focus on the implications of Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine on the future of EU integration, security and more.

The event will be opened by Daire Keogh (President of DCU) and include a opening statement by Thomas Byrne TD (Minister of State for European Affairs of Ireland).

It will then be followed by a high-level roundtable of experts, chaired by Judy Dempsey (Senior Fellow at Carnegie Europe and editor in chief of Strategic Europe) and featuring:

  • Inge Govaere (Jean Monnet Professor of EU Law at University of Ghent and College of Europe, Bruges), who will discuss the impact of the war on the EU external relations, including developments in CFSP and CSDP
  • Anand Menon (Professor of European Politics, King’s College London & Director, UK in a Changing Europe), who will address how the war affects EU-UK cooperation in defense and foreign affairs post-Brexit
  • Olivier Costa (Professor of Political Science, Science Po, Paris and College of Europe, Bruges), who will discuss how the war affects forthcoming elections in France and Hungary, as well as the prospects of the Conference on the Future of Europe
  • Federico Fabbrini (Professor of EU Law & Founding Director, DCU Brexit Institute), who focuses on the war’s implications for European integration and EU fiscal capacity and military capability
