The presidential elections in France(Federal Trust)

22/03/2022, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Webinar hosted by the Federal Trust for Education & Research and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

In April 2022, the French electorate will be deciding on the next French President. The topics featuring high in the campaign are the ongoing response to Covid-19, economic policy and identity politics marked by deep divisions on immigration. Against a fractured left, the incumbent, Emmanuel Macron, is in a strong position to secure a second term, but faces challenges in particular from the right.
At our webinar, our expert speakers will analyse and discuss the issues arising from the campaign the possible implications of the election result. Which topics are likely to be decisive in the campaign? What would a strong populist vote mean for Europe? What impact will the events in Ukraine have on the campaign and Macron’s vision of European sovereignty? How are relations with Germany and the UK likely to be affected?

Speakers:
Jacques Reland
Senior Research Fellow, Global Policy Institute

Caroline Kanter
Director, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Paris Office
