What happens now? The new Tory PM…and the UK

08/09/2022, 2:00 pm - 4:15 pm
On Monday, the United Kingdom will have its fourth Prime Minister in eight years. New leaders traditionally enjoy a ‘honeymoon period’. But the new PM will instead face a bleak economic crisis of soaring energy bills, rapidly shrinking pay packets and industrial strife. And with the next election only two years away, the new Prime Minister has little time to tackle the current crisis, boost the economy, reform public services and deliver on promises made at the last election – from levelling up the country to getting Brexit done.

What are the immediate political and economic challenges confronting the new Prime Minister? How might they address these? What are the potential implications of these policy choices for people and the political landscape? This joint event, organised by UK in a Changing Europe, Resolution Foundation and Onward will debate and answer these questions and consider what the future might hold for UK politics and the economy.

The event will be open for people to physically attend, alongside being broadcast via YouTube and the UK in a Changing Europe website. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event via Slido.
