The government has sparked controversy with the introduction of the UK Internal Market Bill. The bill will give ministers the power to break international law in their application of the Northern Ireland protocol, and also has significant implications for devolution and intra-UK trade.
On this podcast, the Institute for Government Brexit team discuss what the bill does, why the government thinks it’s necessary, how the EU is likely to respond, why it has upset the devolved administrations and what challenges it may face in its passage through parliament.
Jill Rutter, Senior Fellow at the Institute for Government, was in conversation with:
- Maddy Thimont Jack, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Government
- Jess Sargeant, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Government
- James Kane, Associate at the Institute for Government
