DESCRIPTION:Brexit has seriously damaged Scotland’s fishing industry. EMiS Committee Member David Brew will lead an interactive Zoom session for members and supporters to explore the highways and byways of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the Brexit effect on Scottish fisheries. \nDavid is a former senior civil servant who led the Scottish Office fisheries team in the 1990s and served as Head of Fisheries in Marine Scotland following its establishment in 2009. \nThis will be an interactive session (online). DESCRIPTION:The next episode in the Social Europe Talk series\, supported by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung\, takes place on Tuesday\, May 4th at 14.00-15.00 CET\, in the run-up to the Social Summit in Porto three days later. \nTo enjoy the debate live\, use the link to Zoom or to YouTube. \nNow that the European Pillar of Social Rights\, launched in 2017\, has been translated into an Action Plan\, we explore with key players how to realise a Europe inclusive of all. Can the decades of dominance of ‘negative’ market integration really be displaced by a positive\, social-policy focus\, when this has conventionally been conceived as the prerogative of the member states? Could there be agreement on the goal of a social-investment or a social-ecological state at the European level? Is the focus in the Action Plan on targets\, monitoring and funding right\, rather than on the social outcomes sought and the programmes—such as a Europe-wide unemployment-reinsurance scheme—needed to achieve them?
