Our Star – UK’s European Star of Unity in Dumfries

‘Our Star’ was created to promote European values, with an emphasis on peace and unity. In autumn 2023 the Star left its home at the European Parliament in Brussels and was touring its way across the UK.

Between 18th and 30th of November, the star was making its way around Scotland, marked by a series of events, planned by the European Movement in Scotland in partnership with local groups, to raise awareness of the negative impact of Brexit on our society and shine a light on our youngest citizens and the freedoms they have lost as a result of Brexit.

On 18th November 2023 the Star was at the Art-Deco Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries. South West Scotland for Europe were hosting a discussion with a range of prominent speakers including:
Tony Fitzpatrick, an expert in rural economic development
Gerry Hassan, author, columnist and commentator
Laura Moodie, Scottish Greens
Ben Twist, former associate director at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and artistic director at Manchester’s Contact Theatre
